The RI
Freedom
Collective
The RI Freedom Collective aims to create a robust network supporting Formerly Incarcerated Persons (FIPs), influence policy change, and elevate the voices of people currently incarcerated and their families in Rhode Island and nationally.

Welcome to The RI Freedom Collective
A Movement for Justice, Led by Those Who Have Lived It
The RI Freedom Collective is a grassroots organization founded by Mario Monteiro, Kyle Campbell, and Steven Parkhurst—three men whose powerful journeys from incarceration to advocacy embody resilience, redemption, and the fight for justice. Collectively, they served over 80 years behind bars, each sentenced to life under outdated and extreme sentencing laws.
Through unwavering determination, they secured their freedom: Mario through the passage of “Mario’s Law” addressing sentencing reform, Kyle through post-conviction litigation, and Steven by challenging the constitutionality of his sentence in federal court. Now, they are dedicated to ensuring others still behind the walls have a voice and a path to justice.

Our Mission:
Advocacy,
Education, and
Change
The RI Freedom Collective is committed to empowering those directly impacted by the criminal justice system. We believe that the people most affected by unjust policies should be the ones leading the fight for reform.
Together, we can create a more just and equitable future.

Join Us in the Fight for Justice
Real change happens when we come together. Whether you are directly impacted, an ally, or simply someone who believes in fairness, we invite you to be part of this movement.
Stay informed, get involved, and help us transform the criminal justice system from one of punishment to one of true rehabilitation and justice.
Together, we can create a more just and equitable future.
